this is gorgeous. do you think it’s at all along the lines of the “look into the future” videos from the 50s with flying cars and robot servants, etc.?
There are probably some aspects of that, but I think a good deal of this will really happen, and sooner than you might think. Part of it is that the rate of technological change is so much more rapid than it was 60 years ago. Multi-touch is already becoming more prevalent, and cross-device interaction is one of the primary trends we’re working on in the R&D lab. Those two things are already happening and will continue to evolve, and I think they are right on in terms of the number of “devices” multiplying. But what we consider a device will also change — so if your wallet becomes a little digital touch-screen like they’re showing, is it a device, or is it just a wallet?
Things like transparent and holographic screens — I hope they happen, and people are working on it, but I don’t see a lot fo momentum happening just yet. And the physical-to-digital interaction models are also happening, but I think we have a ways to go before they’re anything like what’s in the video.
